On October 9, 1990, legendary thrash-act, SLAYER released their 5th album, entitled "Seasons in the Abyss." The overall response to the album was good, with few critics bashing it. The album received little to no mainstream attention on the radio or other outlets due to its violent lyrics, but was in regular rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.

The album opens with the thrash metal opus "War Ensemble." This track was the epitome of thrash during it's time. It had everything a good thrash song needed; crushingly heavy guitar playing, intense drumming and strong vocals. Since its release, "War Ensemble" has become one of the all time classics of thrash metal.

Seasons is arguably one of Slayer's all time best albums, with tracks like "Spirit in Black," and "Blood Red," it's easy to understand why; it's the most badass and heavy album Slayer ever released.

The track "Dead Skin Mask" is another thrash classic. It shows that SLAYER doesn't always have to be fast, and can turn something slow (by SLAYER standards) into something incredibly brutal. The guitar work is simplistic, while managing to sound technical and mysterious.

Seasons may not be the number 1 SLAYER album in terms of sales and overall fandom, but there's no denying that it is one of the most insane, methodical, and best written albums SLAYER ever made.
