BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME: The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues (Album Review)
By Kate Wilcox
Release Date: April 12th, 2011 Review Date: April 11th, 2011 Label: Metal Blade My rating:
Clocking in at 30 minutes with three tracks, BTBAM take you on a journey for your ears and mind, starting with the symphonic "Specular Reflection" that starts off airy and light but explodes into aggression with Tommy Rogers' brutal growls met with cleaner, melodic vocals during the chorus. Dan Briggs stands out with his bass as well as Blake Richardson does on drums. The more technical "Augment of Rebirth" has Dusty Waring and Paul Waggoner at top form with some epic chromatic picking and chugging riffs at every turn. Briggs' drumming whirls around you in a complex manner but keeps a rhythm that is in traditional head-banging manner. "Lunar Wilderness" is engaging with strong vocals that are backed with atmospheric sections. Jazzy solos interlude in between the frenzied guitar riffs that make it very easy to get lost within the music. What Between the Buried and Me are offering here is not to be taken lightly. There are layers upon layers with each track interlocking and playing off one another. If you're looking for something easy to headbang along with then this album is not for you. But if you're looking for a completely new experience for your listening senses then you will want to go out and grab a copy of "The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues". Tweet | ||||||||||||||
