"The Unseen Empire" is the 5th album from Swedish Melo-Death outfit Scar Symmetry. The album kicks off with the track "The Anomaly", an energetic and surprisingly uplifting song. The melodies are incredible, and the overall riffing and solos seem methodical and full of substance. The band's mix of clean and death vocals, along with their soulful vocal harmonies make them stand out in the world of often bland and contrived melo-death.

The next track, "Illuminoid Dream Sequence", is an interesting departure from the mood of the starter track, with the band going in a heavier direction while still maintaining some bright sounding melodies. The vocals, again, are great, but lack any noticeable tonal changes; a minor annoyance, but still listenable.

"The Unseen Empire", overall, is a fantastic album; thought out, well written, and recorded with a lot of pride. Tracks like "Seers of the Schaton" and "Domination Agenda" are full of pure emotion, while tracks like "Alpha and Omega", and "Astronomicon" are pure metal mayhem. I appreciate the fact that the band really seems to care about their music, and put out an album full of quality, rather than an album with 2 good songs and 10 filler tracks. It seems that a lot of soul, energy, and effort was put into the creation of this album, and it truly shows in the music. Scar Symmetry has definitely hit the nail on the head with this one. Be sure to pick it up when it hits the stores, you most definitely don't want to miss this one.
