A LIFE DIVIDED: Passenger (Album Review)

The best way to describe A Life Divided's sound is 80s pop, with a ton of catchy hooks and keyboards. Think Duran Duran meets Disturbed meets Depeche Mode. Very melodic, nice choruses but it's all very polished and safe, just what I'm NOT looking for in an album. This sounds exactly like every other pretentious metal band that's coming out more and more these days, I'm guessing for the younger generation to grab onto? "Heart on Fire" and "Forever" sounds like something from Stabbing Westward loaded with over-the-top synths and electronic samples that drown out the guitar, drums and bass. When did samples take over actual musicianship exactly? "Hey You" holds the heaviest riffs and comes the closest to sounding something that resembles metal with JP's vocals coming across with some low growls. But disappointment follows with "Doesn't Count" that sounds like a Nine Inch Nails rip off with more synthesizer and samples. The rest of "Passenger" continues on in the same fashion and SPOILER ALERT! "Other Side" Rip off of Depeche Mode, just saying. I'm not saying that A Life Divided is not a talented band but they hide behind electronics and come across extremely bland. There is absolutely nothing that challenges me here. If you're looking for something easy and light to listen to then this album is for you. Tweet | ||||||||||||||
