SHAKRA: Back on Track (Album Review)
By Kate Wilcox
Release Date: May 3rd, 2011 Review Date: April 28th, 2011 Record Label: AFM My rating:
Shakra knows how to incorporate hard rock with heavy metal with aggressive beats, shredding guitar riffs and powerful vocals. After a few different changes with singers, the band now sounds like a well oiled machine with John Prakesh on vocals. You can immediately tell that the whole band meshes with the vocals smoothly as guitar and bass weave in and out while the drums are played with a powerful and methodical rhythm. While Shakra holds a heavy eighties influence which is still fresh enough for people to appreciate today. "B True B You" comes ripping in with crushing drums from Roger Tanner and thick guitar riffs supplied by the Thom Blunier-Thomas Muster duo. This could easily be a hit single with a catchy chorus and enough hooks to keep the listener interested. "Crazy" comes in with more killer guitar grooves and power chorus that you'll find yourself singing along with after a few seconds. The title track is really where John shows off his vocal abilities with dual harmonies and incredible melody. The searing guitar solo makes this track really stand out. Shakra delivers a captivating ballad with "When I See You" that holds beautifully played acoustic guitar and sorrowful lyrics before they take back with "MMTWGR", delivering crunchy guitar riffs and John lets us see his darker side with some low growls mixed with his usual cleaner singing style. "Back on Track" is really aimed at a diverse audience. Younger music lovers will be able to appreciate its ability to be retro without being cheesy while fans from my generation will be pleased with seventies and eighties feel the band gives while still keeping it modern. I definitely recommend you go out and pick up a copy today! | ||||||||||||||
