Acephalix: Interminable Night (Album Review)

San Francisco-based Acephalix knows how to throw down some of the most brutal riffs and nastiest vocals and will shove this combination right down your throat before you even know what's happening. I'm proud to see that the bay area is still thriving with bands that can produce such a fine slab of dirty filth (I'm saying this in a good way) and put together the old days of death metal with their own sound, to make it as dark as grimy as they possibly can. Does my black little heart good to hear that? It really does. Three quarters of Acephalix are also involved with death metallers Vastum, another killer band whose new album will also see the light of day soon. "Immemorial Past" delivers some classic black metal riffing while "Daemonic Past" is just an onslaught of savagery with Dan's insane vocals, crushing drums and a classic guitar solo. The bass heavy "Rebirth Into Perversion" keeps the brutality going with double pedal drumming and an onslaught of blackened tremolo riffing. "In the Arms of Nothing" gives you a shredding solo that carries a Slayer-esque vibe while Dan continues to show us skillful vocal chops on "Warm Flesh". The recording and mix by Jeff Leppard is masterfully done, and has everything sounding crystal clear while still keeping that low, dark, grittiness to it. Don't take my word for it though, go out and pick up a copy of "Interminable Night" and see for yourself. While not breaking any ground, Acephalix brings you metal in its rawest form that is also a shitload of fun to listen to! Tweet | ||||||||||||||
