Terry Brock will be releasing his second solo album "Diamond Blue" this coming September in the USA with the help of his good friend Mike Slamer. Terry began his career when he was backing vocalist on the Kansas album "Drastic Measure" released in 1983. He supported that tour on guitars and as a backing vocalist. He also toured with Steve Morse Band as the guitarist and backing vocalist before he joined Strangeways, which was a British Melodic Rock band in the 80's and so later took over the vocals in Giant. He sang as background vocalist for many bands such as: Valentine, Heaven's Edge, Aviator, Britney Fox and even Michael Bolton. He is no stranger to the rock world. Opening up the album is the title track, "Diamond Blue"catching your attention with hard and chucky guitar tones that are solid and breathless. Brock vocals are clear and smooth throughout this song. His voice won this song over and he picks up his vocal tones in "It's You". It's great to see that vocalists can do more with their vocal ranges instead of staying at the same range all the time. "No More Mr. Nice Guy"brings more of an aggressive side that adds a nice touch to this album and leads into a ballad song, "The Rain" that delivers a softer side of Terry. I really enjoy ballads because it shows you can be forceful but deep down you can have a deeper feeling within you without always being so tough. Wow, guitar riff in the beginning of "Broken"was freaking amazing. I had to stop it at once on my first take to hear it again. The drumming was good on this song as well and it happens to stand out more compared to the other songs that I've heard. Other songs like "Why", "Too Young"and "Soldier Falls"have great arrangements, good song structures, inspiring riffs and good vocal ranges. "Face the Night"closes out the album with a beautiful acoustic and a piano ballad I'm crazy about. It was music to my ears and a great closing song to complete this album. Diamond Blue is a good album to listen too with mesmerizing and roaring guitar solos, and it shows that both Terry and Mike work well together and bring together a complete collaboration exploring more classic melodic rock tones, riffs, modern elements, mid-tempo numbers, very good vocal approaches and chorus that wins me over each time. The production overall was on point and the song writing was strong. Although, some of the songs didn't get me grooving, it is still a good release. If you're into melodic rock, this album is a good selection for you to pick up. For more rocking information visit Frontier Records. | ||||||||||||||
