GWAR: Bloody Pit Of Horror (Album Review)
By Tyler Crooks
Release Date: November 9th, 2010 Record Label: Metal Blade My rating points:
"Bloody Pit of Horror" is the newest album from Alien shock-rock/theater troupe GWAR. "Bloody Pit of Horror" is GWAR's 12th studio album, and their second release since their triumphant return to Metal Blade Records. The album opens with the incredibly heavy "Zombies, March!" An ode to the glorious world of the undead and all those who control their minds. Musically, "Zombies, March!" is heavy as fuck, with Flattus and Balsac both using 8-string guitars, backed with Beefcake's thunderous bass. Oderus Urungus's voice is right on par, as expected, and Jizmak's drumming is insane to say the least. A perfect track to open with and choose as a single. "Zombies" transitions into "Come the Carnivor;" a slow and intense Doom/Stoner song. The guitar riffs are horribly slow by heavy metal standards, but they create an aura of impending disaster coupled with Oderus's ominous vocals and Jizmak's slow, simplistic drumming. This song is insanely short with a 2 minute, 24 second run time, but GWAR made sure to pack a lot of doom into that short time frame. It's definitely a song to light a joint to. Another great song off BPOH is "The Litany of the Slain;" a tribute to all of those killed by GWAR, in near chronological order. This song is another slow one, but pretty long with a 4 minute, 16 second run time. This track is pretty heavy, with awesome dual riffs from Flattus and Balsac, and a great percussive section. Oderus's vocals seem a bit forced on this track, but they fit in pretty well. Overall, "Bloody Pit of Horror" is a great album, but seems a bit rushed, seeing as their last album was only released a year ago. In any case, "Bloody Pit of Horror" is definitely worth a listen from fans and newcomers alike. Tweet | ||||||||||||||
